how to renumber footnotes with each chapter

So I have a chapter that has the footnotes starting at 1, but need to change that number to 103.

Those sections (and only those sections) should have their numbering (step 5) set to Restart Each Section. Hi, I'm working on a long document, multiple chapters, and need to renumber the footnotes to be continuous throughout the thesis. The idea is to change the way footnotes are numbered, to Continuous, for every section in the document except for those sections that actually start chapters.

Place the insertion point within the section immediately following the section that contains a landscape-oriented picture.

Roger wonders what could be causing this problem with the footnotes. The footnote was actually deleted, but the remaining footnotes did not renumber. Roger went into the document body, found the footnote marker for the appropriate footnote, and then deleted it.

Word displays the Footnote and Endnote dialog box. Can't seem to find this explained anywhere, but also don't remember it being a. I'm hoping there's a way to do this that won't involve bypassing the electronic numbering altogether.

To get around this problem, follow these steps: It sounds like, in John's case, the footnotes have been modified so that they begin with 1 every time there is a section break, so the problem occurs only with those chapters that contain multiple sections (such as for the chapters containing sections for landscape-oriented pictures). Be sure to click Apply rather than Insert to close the dialog window. Confirm that Apply changes to specifies Whole document. From the Number choices select Continuous. Confirm that the Footnote option is selected. Word allows you to modify how your footnotes are numbered, and this modification can be made for each section within your document. Make sure that Track Changes is not in use. John would like the numbering before and after the landscape illustration to be continuous for the whole chapter but, so far, he can't find a way of doing it. It will be 100 page master’s thesis with a probably a couple hundred endnotes, so it’s important that they automatically number themselves correctly, restarting at ‘1’ each chapter.) (It perhaps goes without saying that I can’t simply number all the end-notes manually. I can’t find any other way to re-start numbering. I’ve also tried to re-start the numbering by simply clicking beside a an endnote (in the endnotes section) and clicking ‘Restart numbering’ but this does nothing. I can’t find anywhere in the documentation where it says what I might have to do to define what constitutes a chapter or to otherwise fix this problem. I have lots of H1s, so I wonder why it doesn’t assume (more or less correctly) that these are chapters (it’s ok if it assumes this, most of them are). However, I only get the options ‘per page’ and ‘per document’. I gather that it should be possible to do this by going to Tools > Footnotes/Endnotes and changing the value for Counting. I need my endnotes to re-start numbering at 1 for each chapter.
